ONE TIME NEET-UG EXEMPTION FOR STUDYING MBBS ABROAD: KNOW THE DETAILS


Due to the continuous postponement of NEET UG 2020, the abroad admission process of Medical aspirant who wishes to pursue MBBS abroad had already been delayed to a large extent. After the NEET UG Exams are held the result and counselling process will also take up a lot of time till then the MBBS admission process abroad would have already concluded and the classes would have started in many countries. This would have lost a whole academic year of the MBBS aspirant in the process who wished to pursue MBBS studies abroad.

Taking into consideration the whole scenario and the plea made by the concerned MBBS aspirants, the MCI has allowed a one-time exemption for these candidates from taking the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET scheduled to be conducted on September 13, 2020. This exemption can be considered as only a one-time measure for 2020 due to such a great extent of the widespread pandemic. From next year onwards no such claims can be made.

As in many countries abroad the medical admissions have either already commenced or are in process of completion soon, many medical aspirants who wish to pursue MBBS abroad were left in a lurch with no official documents in hand to start their MBBS admission process abroad. With the fear of losing a year, many aspirants reached out to the authorities for a solution.

Several NRI students living in gulf countries were also facing similar challenges as to take NEET-UG 2020 exams they were supposed to appear for NEET-UG 2020 exams in India only which seemed like a challenging task for students who would have to travel alone without their parents due to the travel restrictions because of the pandemic.

However, such abroad Medical aspirants should keep in mind that it would be mandatory for them to qualify the NEET-UG either in 2020 or 2021 as per their convenience. In case, the candidates fail to qualify NEET-UG in 2020 or 2021, the decision to continue their abroad MBBS Courses shall be at their own risk and they will not be eligible to appear for the MCI Screening Test. Without MCI Screening test they would also not be entitled to receive Provisional/Permanent Registration by the State Medical Councils.
