How Covid-19 has impacted the abroad study decision of students

Lucrative employability, augmented reputation, and the prospect of a better social life more often than not have been the dominant factors motivating Indian student’s decision to pursue higher studies abroad. But the global turmoil due to Covid-19 has thrown education all over the world in a loop and has prompted the experts to rethink the conventional mode of education.

Acknowledging the current circumstances and a major shift in the rules and guidelines in every country worldwide the abroad education situation has altered quite a bit. But on a bright side, a majority of parents and students who had planned to study abroad this year are still holding on to their dreams and plan on going ahead with their decisions even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even though there may be a steep fall in the demand of non-STEM international graduates during this time, the demand for science, engineering and technology graduates, who could preferably work for the medical industry, pharmaceutical companies, and in the field of innovation and technology will definitely elevate everywhere around the globe.

With the majority of entrance examinations delayed across India, the enrolment of Indian students in graduate and undergraduate courses abroad will be affected during the fall semester but will not have a substantial impact on the admissions.

In a survey conducted by abroad education consultants, more than 80-90% of Indian students who had planned to study abroad still want to go along with their decisions to study abroad due to the safety measures being put in place everywhere.

Along with strict measures for curtailing the Covid-19 pandemic and taking necessary strides to ensure the safety of every student, universities abroad are boosting other opportunities and facilities to maintain their attractiveness among International students. Few universities have introduced application fee waivers for those in need of financial assistance. Some universities are also planning to defer opening their campus and conduct the classes online for the current semester or until the situation gets in control.

These universities have been in existence for a very long time, including a lot been here for multiple centuries. They have seen many national and international tribulation and crisis before and have a good insight into tackling them.

Every country is at a different stage of the outbreak and governmental responses may vary but the situation is more or less the same in every part of the world. It is clearly evident that the coronavirus is not going away anytime soon and we have to learn to lead a normal life with it for the time being using necessary precautions so that we can continue our life and contribute to the economy instead of being paranoid about it.
