The Medical University of Warsaw was founded in January 1950, at the building on the University of Warsaw’s former Faculty of Medicine, which had been established in the early nineteenth century. It is the largest medical school in Poland, and one of the most prestigious and leading classical scientific-educational centres.

The University of Warsaw offers education in 17 faculties in Polish, 3 in English, 15 postgraduate studies, MBA studies and numerous specializations, and continuing courses. The Medical Division of the University offers a medical programme for high school graduates and for college/university graduates.

At present around 10,000 students study at the Medical University of Warsaw, including 900 foreigners, 470 doctoral students and 186 post-graduate students. The academic faculty of the university are highly qualified individuals with years of experience in training students. There are over 1,800 academic teachers, including 170 full-time professors. The teaching staffs work as researchers or medical practitioners at the University’s basic science, pre-clinical and clinical departments.

The English Division of the Second Faculty of Medicine was established in 1993 at the Medical University of Warsaw for students interested in studying medicine in the English language. The experience in training foreign citizens in English allows the Medical University of Warsaw’s teaching faculties to provide high-quality medical education to international students.

Basic science and pre-medical training of the English Division students are provided in the form of lectures, seminars and practical classes by more than 70 departments and clinics of the Medical University of Warsaw and affiliated institutions. Clinical training facilities at affiliated hospitals are regularly evaluated in order to ensure the effectiveness and high quality of clinical training.

The Medical University of Warsaw has joined the Global Health Learning Opportunities program (GHLO) and signed an appropriate agreement with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) allowing the university to participate in this international student exchange program for elective rotations as Home Institution. The graduates of the Medical University of Warsaw are awarded an MD degree (equivalent to MBBS Degree in India) and receive a medical diploma recognized in the European Union, USA, Canada and other countries around the world including the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The Medical University of Warsaw has collaboration with a number of foreign universities within the LLP-Erasmus program and the CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) evaluated according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). Joint projects, master classes, seminars, lectures and teleconferences with international partners play an important role in the integration of the University into the international educational community.
