NEPAL-MD/MS: SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR INDIAN CANDIDATES

  1. Candidates for Nepal-MD/MS courses shall be selected on a merit basis. The criteria for merit will be according to the University [B.P. Koirala/Kathmandu University/IOM] rules based on the PG Entrance Examination.
  2. All students including international students must take and pass the PG entrance examinations conducted by the University [B.P. Koirala/Kathmandu University/IOM]
  3. Those who secure more than 50% marks in the entrance exam are listed in the merit.

Apply online at the official website at the earliest, within the last date of application submission specified at the College website.

The online application form consists of two steps:

  1. It would require basic personal details of the applicant e.g. Name, DOB, Nationality and Parent’s contact details.
  2. It would also require 10th standard / ‘O’ Level aggregate marks and 10+2 / ‘A’ Level Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English marks.

Manipal College of Medical Sciences Nepal



Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS) is a private medical college established in 1994 in Pokhara, Nepal. It is the result of the collaboration between the Manipal Education Group and the Government of Nepal. The Medical College is affiliated to the Kathmandu University.

The College is approved by the MCI to provide MBBS education to Indian students. The duration, of course, is 4.5 years and the whole program is taught in the English language.  The curriculum and pattern of MBBS in Nepal is similar to India and the students get excellent practical exposure through Community Outreaches and Teaching Hospital.

The listing of the University in WHO directory of Accredited Medical Schools enables the graduates to undertake various international licensing exams like- USMLE, PLAB etc.

The annual intake for the MBBS course at Manipal College of Medical Sciences is 100 students. The majority of the students are of Nepalese and Indian origin. Students from other nations such as Sri Lanka, United States of America, Canada, etc also get enrolled. Many students from American and European Universities enrol for elective training and get the opportunity for hands-on training.


Campus

Manipal College of Medical Sciences has two campuses:

  • The Deep Campus is spread across 8 acres of wooded land, housing the preclinical sciences departments, hostels and other facilities for preclinical students.
  • The second, Phulbari Campus, is a 30-acre campus and has an 825-bed multi-speciality teaching hospital.

  • Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH) is a 700-bedded hospital, spread across 38 acres in the Himalayas located at Phulbari, Pokhara.
  • The hospital building is constructed as a 5-story building.
  • It houses an extensive medical library, student’s classrooms, a canteen, the main atrium, an auditorium along with outpatient departments and inpatient wards.
  • There are also a number of ultra-modern speciality services at the Hospital including NICU, Neuro Surgery, Linear Accelerator, Spiral CT Scan, MRI etc.
  • All the medical students and faculty reside close by in other buildings.

Community Outreach Programs

How to Apply at BPKIHS for MD/MS Courses

  1. Candidate must submit his/her application online ONLY. There is no provision for manual submission of application.
  2. Upload Scanned copies of all the original certificates/documents and recent colour photo & signature as and where necessary.
  3. Attach scan copy of bank voucher/SWIFT transfer receipt of application fee as instructed in the online application form.
  4. Once the form has been submitted, it will be scrutinized and the status of the application will be informed after 7 days.
  5. Candidates must retain the original bank voucher/SWIFT transfer receipt as it needs to be deposited at the time of Entrance examination to be eligible to enter the examination centre.
  6. Admit card will be electronically issued after verification of the uploaded certificates/bank voucher/SWIFT transfer and the application form which should be downloaded.


Documents required for MD/MS application form

Scanned copies of each of the following original documents should be uploaded (scanned copies of photocopies will not be accepted):

  • Certificate of registration with the Medical Council/accreditation body in their respective country.
  • Passport / Voter ID Card / Domicile Certificate for International candidates (No other identity card will be accepted).
  • Banks voucher/SWIFT transfer receipt.
  • Two-year work experience certificate for government-sponsored candidates and no objection certificate (NOC) from the Department of Health Services, Government of Nepal.
  • Two years bond completion certificate till the last date of submission of online application.

Selection Process at BPKIHS for MD/MS Courses:

  • The selection of candidates will be based on Entrance Examination.
  • The Entrance Examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions (single response) carrying 200 marks covering all the undergraduate MBBS subjects for MD/MS/MDHA and BDS subjects for MDS.
  • There is no negative marking.
  • The Entrance Examination is common for Nepalese and International candidates.
  • The duration of the examination is 3 hours.
  • Candidate (both Nepalese and International) who secures at least 50% marks (cut-off point) in the Entrance Examination will be eligible for counselling.
  • Selection will be based on merit and counselling: There will be two separate merit lists for: Nepalese candidates and International candidates

Eligibility Criteria of MD/MS for Indian students

Candidates who meet the following eligibility criteria are eligible to apply for PG Entrance Examination for admission to MD/MS in Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences:

  1. Less than 45 years of age on the last date of submission of application
  2. Passed I.Sc or Class XII or 10+2 system or A level or equivalent examination
  3. MBBS or an equivalent medical degree recognized by BPKIHS and who have completed one year of internship.
  4. Registered with Medical Council in their respective state/country.

Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) was established on Jan 18th 1993 and subsequently upgraded as an autonomous Health Sciences University on Oct 28th 1998, with a vision to work towards developing socially responsible and competent health workforce, providing health care & contributing towards innovative health research.

BPKIHS is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the WHO and recognised by the Medical Council of India to teach MBBS and MD/MS in various specialities. There are a significant population of Indian students studying at the institute. BPKIHS is at par with the leading medical institutions of India and the Indian nationals do not require any visa to enter Nepal, except a valid identity document.

B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is located in Eastern Nepal and has extended its continued health services through teaching district concept to Primary Health Care Centres, District Hospitals and Zonal Hospitals in different districts of the region.

BPKIHS has postgraduate (MD, MS, MDS, MSc and MPH), undergraduate (MBBS, Nursing, BDS), university certificate programs and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs being taught by qualified and experienced academic faculty. The Kathmandu Valley has a pleasant climate with average summer temperatures of 20°C – 35°C and 2°C – 12°C in winter. Average temperatures in Nepal drop 6°C for every 1,000 m you gain in altitude.



CURRENCY

The currency of Nepal is NEPALI RUPEES. There are coins for denominations of one, two, five and 10 rupees, and banknotes in denominations of one, two, five, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 rupees. It’s easy to change cash and access ATMs in Kathmandu, Pokhara and other cities, but almost impossible in rural areas or on treks.


SHOPPING

Exquisite handicrafts with exclusive workmanship are sold in the markets of Nepal. Artistic works of stone and metal, silver and gold trinkets and incredible wood carvings are readily available. Other kinds of souvenirs include Nepali tea, the famous Gurkha knife, prayer wheels, stone carvings, singing bowls, papier–maché masks, pashmina, carpets, jewellery etc.

Souvenir items are available in tourist areas like Thamel, New Road, Basantapur, Asan, Patan, Bhaktapur and around major hotels. But remember anything older than 100 years old cannot be taken out of the country.



HOW TO REACH NEPAL FROM INDIA


By Air

There are a handful of airlines that operate daily from India including Jet Airways, Indigo and Air India to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Other airlines that connect Nepal to various international destinations are Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airlines, Silk Air, Oman Airlines, Air China, Air Asia, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia.

By Train

There are regular passenger and cargo trains that connect Sirsiya (Southern Nepal) and Raxaul (India). There is no visa requirement and this option is only open to Indians and Nepalese.

By Road

The bus is the most convenient option to reach Nepal from India. There are direct buses that operate between Delhi and Kathmandu. Travelling by car is also a common practice. You are required to pay a toll fee and a transport permit at the border crossing. Do not forget to collect the receipts as you might be asked at other checkpoints. OR

  • Passed Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree recognized by the Universities in Nepal with biological sciences and must have passed the Higher Secondary Education (Science) or 10+2 (Science) or Intermediate of Science or equivalent Science education with Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Only NEET qualified Indian students eligible.
  • Must have passed the Medical Entrance Examination conducted for MBBS program by BPKIHS, KU, TU (as applicable).

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR MBBS IN NEPAL

  • Admission will be made based on performance in the entrance test followed by an interview.
  • Results will be published one week before the course commencement.
  • Foreign students will be selected based on eligibility criteria and interviews after passing the Common Entrance test conducted by KU, TU, BPKIHS (as applicable) and duly filling the application form of the individual colleges.

NOTE: Interview will be conducted by the respective College in which admission is being sought.

The main academic complex of the National Medical College comprises of the Basic Medical Science Departments, Lecture Theaters, Central Library, Examination Hall and Teaching Hospital.

Basic Medical Sciences Block

The Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) Block houses the Pre-Clinical departments, departments of Community Medicine and Forensic Medicine. Each of these departments has fully equipped laboratory, museum, departmental library, Seminar/ Tutorial rooms and adequate rooms for faculty and staff.
