How to choose PG Medicine Specialization

MCI to Introduce Common NEXT Exam for Indian and Foreign Medical Graduates and Candidates of PG Med

Tips for Indian students preparing to study abroad

PG Medical degrees from Russia, other countries soon to be recognised by MCI in India

Eligibility Criteria for PG Medical at Institute of Medicine Nepal

Do not take admission at any Medical University before knowing this

As we keep growing at a rapid pace, diversity and exploration are the key agendas towards growth. Medical aspirants are expected to be dedicated and focused. A notable amount of effort and personal sacrifice is associated with the profession. If you are not motivated enough for the career path the sacrifice won’t deem worth the rewards.

To be able to get admitted at a noteworthy Medical institution is a highly competitive feat. The acceptance rate at government medical colleges is limited as the number of seats is regrettably very limited. The fees at private medical institutions is equally deferring for students with limited budget.

Certainly, it is the foremost objective of any Indian medical aspirant to secure a seat at an Indian medical institution, but one must also do an equally important individual research about the private medical college they are able to secure admission at.

If due to any unfortunate reason candidates are unable to score well for a government college they don’t need to panic or succumb to get admission at any private college they can get their hands on. Instead they should explore the possibilities and opportunities available.

There are various medical institutions across the country. One should always verify few of the necessary requisite before taking any decision. The college establishment, number of years the college has been running, approval by the MCI, facilities provided for clinical exposure, if they have any affiliated hospital then the daily patient inflow, laboratories, facilities, etc.

An amalgamation of excellent infrastructure along with experienced and skilled faculty has a great impact on student’s career trajectory. One cannot overlook the significant role of an institution in medical studies.

One needs to have realistic expectations from themselves. Some students keep on preparing for entrance exams without taking into consideration practical situation. If candidates are unable to score for government colleges you can still have a career in medicine by studying at government medical colleges abroad.

Some students don’t want to go abroad due to the duration of course in some colleges being more. In medical profession don’t count the number of years you need to study. Learning in medicine is not 5 years or 5+3+3 years (MBBS+MD+DM) it is a life-long process .Advances in medical sciences keep on occurring rapidly and doctors need to keep themselves updated accordingly.

If you apply to an affordable medical school abroad it will lower down your education cost and make a huge difference in cutting down your study expense. Seeing the world with an open-minded perspective will make you a culturally aware global citizen which will benefit you wherever you go.

Medical aspirants can improve their chances of getting admission at premier medical institutions abroad with the help of good mentors. There are a lot of Universities in Russia, Ukraine, Philippines, Romania, Georgia, etc imparting MBBS abroad in English language. They have been training medical professionals for more than 100 to 200 years and have advance teaching facilities.

You can reach out to admission counselors with all your doubts about studying MBBS abroad. A good abroad education consultant will guide you through the whole admission process. They will l evaluate your options and choose the best study destination to study abroad according to your preference and budget.

MBBS in India or Abroad

MCI to Introduce Common NEXT Exam for Indian and Foreign Medical Graduates and Candidates of PG Med

Benefits of Studying Abroad

HOW TO STUDY MBBS ABROAD

MBBS in India or Abroad

MBBS in India from a good Government Medical college is undeniably an excellent opportunity for any medical aspirant n India. The costs of education is much less than those of in countries Germany, UK, Russia and the United States and the standard of education is also of excellent quality but the number of seats available is so less that not every aspirant get the opportunity to study here.

The students who are unable to get admitted to government medical colleges in India try their chance at securing admission in private medical colleges in India. Although, there are a lot of private colleges across the country not all them can be categorized as excellent medical colleges.

Difference in facilities

Some private colleges in India have sub-par infrastructure and facilities. Even the clinical exposure during internship at these colleges is below average as number of patients coming to these hospitals is negligible. Even after the average facilities being provided the fees of private medical colleges in India is sky-high with huge capitation involved during the admission process. Ragging and bullying can’t be completely overridden. Even after persistent efforts and vigilant measures of the authorities some instances always emerge now and then, which can’t be ignored.

MCI approved government universities abroad

International medical universities in countries like Russia, China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Nepal, etc are Government Medical Universities listed in the Medical Council of India (MCI) and recognized by WHO (World Health Organisation). These universities are government funded and have very low fees structure. If the student has cleared NEET exam he/she is eligible to to practice in India after clearing the NEXT.

Excellent Clinical training

Most of these universities have their own teaching hospitals which are equipped with modern equipment and sophisticated medical facilities. The inflow of patients at these Government University hospitals is quiet good both in OPD and IPD.

No Entrance exam

There are few countries like USA, UK, New Zealand, etc offering MBBS abroad from where after graduation students do not need to clear any licensing exam to practice in India but the competition at these universities is intense.

These Countries have their respective entrance exams like NEET for securing an admission and the Eligibility criterion also varies based on the destination country.  If you are interested in studying medicine in the US, you need to have completed your graduation (either 4 years course or an honors course) before you can apply for the MBBS entrance exam.

In countries like Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, etc most of the medical universities have no entrance exam and do not require ILETS or GMAT scores.

More than 100 years old universities

The countries like China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, etc are going through economic reform phase hence the growth opportunity for the students studying here is immense and the cost of studying here is quite affordable at this stage. The medical education in the countries lying in the European belt is exceedingly developed and many of the colleges are more than 100 to 150 years old.

Language Comfort

You can study MBBS abroad in English language as in MBBS in India. Along with it foreign universities also teach local language so that during clinical training students can easily communicate with the local patients. Even in India several languages are spoken by locals so don’t consider the language barrier as a big hurdle for MBBS abroad.  You won’t witness language difficulties during your routine activities or interaction with patients and the theoretical MBBS course will be in English language.

Opportunities to pursue PG abroad

Studying MBBS abroad also open doors for pursuing PG Medical courses abroad, if the student wishes to. As after completing MBBS for pursuing a PG degree in India the student has to again take an entrance exam for securing an admission which is much difficult than UG entrance exam. If you have studied MBBS abroad you will always have an extra option to do the PG course abroad that to at affordable cost.

International facilities and exposure

The foremost advantage of MBBS in Abroad that you will get an International exposure while studying in foreign universities. You will experience the world-class MBBS education at fees much lower than private medical colleges or without any capitation. Exposure to a variety of medical conditions along with advanced technology, state-of-the-art facilities and amenities furthermore.

Licensure Exams

There will be no difference whether a student completes MBBS from India or MBBS from Abroad as the government is proposing a centralized NEXT exam for graduates of MBBS in India and abroad alike for a license to practice as a qualified Doctor. The compulsory MCI Screening Test (FMGE) will be replaced by NEXT.

Ministry has proposed NEXT as a centralised examination and discard NEET-PG

Every year 1.5 lakh students appear for NEET-PG entrance exams for admission to around 50,000 PG Medical seats in India.

In a welcome move by Union Health Ministry to relieve medical students wanting to pursue post-graduate courses the Ministry has proposed NEXT as a centralised examination and discard NEET-PG.

“According to the amendments proposed in NMC Bill, entry into the PG programs will be on the basis of the results of the National Exit Test (NEXT), which would be held as a common final MBBS examination exam across the country. So, the candidates would not have to appear in a separate exam after clearing the MBBS final exam for admission to PG courses.

The final MBBS examination i.e. NEXT results would be prerequisite for admission to MD and MS programs and the students would also not be required to appear in a separate exam after MBBS to obtain a license to practice.

The NMC Bill was introduced in Parliament in December 2017, but it lapsed with the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha. The Bill proposed a national-level licence exam for all MBBS graduates India and Abroad for getting licence to practice in India and  provision of a ‘bridge course’ to allow practitioners of AYUSH courses to pursue allopath to address the “acute shortage” of doctors in the country. But it was removed due to strong protests by several doctor bodies.

The new amendment has been incorporated in the revised draft National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill which would be sent to the Cabinet soon, according to official sources.

However, for admission to PG courses at AIIMS, clearing a separate exam will remain mandatory. Also, the NEET Super Specialty, which is a national-level entrance exam for admission in DM/MCh courses, will continue, sources said.

This will regulate NEXT as a centralised examination that will regulate as MBBS UG level Exit examination and PG level medical courses entrance examination as well.

BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is south Asia’s greenest jewel – a country braided with rivers, with a rich culture waiting to be explored. Bangladesh is bordered by the Indian states of West Bengal to the west and north, Assam to the north, Meghalaya to the north and northeast, and Tripura and Mizoram to the east. To the southeast, it shares a boundary with Myanmar (Burma). The southern part of Bangladesh opens into the Bay of Bengal.

Dhaka is now one of the most densely industrialized regions in the country. By the 21st century, it emerged as a mega city, which is now listed as a beta-global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC). Since its establishment as a modern capital city, the population, area, and social and economic diversity of Dhaka have grown tremendously.

Some of the popular tourist destinations to explore in Bangladesh are the Sundarbans (the largest mangrove forest in the world), Cox Bazar (a tourist spot along the longest uninterrupted sea beach in the world), Saint Martin’s Island (a picturesque coral island offshore in the Bay of Bengal), the Sylhet tea gardens, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sonargaon (ruins of the ancient capital of Bengal), Paharpur (a 7th century 27 acres Buddhist monastery complex with a museum), Mahastangarh (an 8th century 5 miles radius archaeological site with a museum), Mainamati (a vast archaeological site consisting of stupas, temples, courtyards and a museum), etc.

The people of Bangladesh are super friendly and they always went out of their way to help. Bangladesh is amongst the cheapest countries in Asia and the world.  Yes, even cheaper than India, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Bangladesh is really a unique country with a lot to offer if you go in with an open mind and be prepared to experience something brand new.

TRAVELLING TO BANGLADESH FROM INDIA

BY FLIGHT

There are three International Airports in Bangladesh:

  1. Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC)
  2. Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP)
  3. SylhetOsmani International Airport (ZYL)

It takes about 30 minutes to reach the center of Dhaka, but may take longer in traffic.

It is also possible to use Chittagong Amanat International Airport for India and Thailand.

If you fly to Dhaka Airport from India you can get Bangladesh visas in Kolkata and Agartala (Akhaura), as well as in New Delhi.

Domestic carriers

Biman is the national carrier of Bangladesh. It’s a scruffy and curiously disorganized operation, but the fleet is fairly well maintained and the airline has a good safety record.

Domestic routes connect Dhaka to Chittagong, Sylhet and Jessore on a daily basis. Barisal, Rajshahi and Saidpur (in Rangpur) are also connected by twice- or thrice-weekly flights.

Departure Tax

The departure tax for leaving Bangladesh by air is included in the price of air tickets.

BY ROAD

Bangladesh shares several border check posts with its neighbor India, and many of these allow civilian transit between the two nations.

Crossings such as Benapole, Tamabil and Akhaura remain popular with tourists, and have fairly good road transport networks on both sides.

BY TRAIN

There is a twice-weekly train that connects Kolkata with Dhaka which is comfortable and hassle-free.

Apart from immigration formalities at the border, it’s direct and nonstop.

GETTING AROUND BANGLADESH

Travelling around Bangladesh is extremely cheap, although in some cases it can be quite uncomfortable.

Buses are really cheap mode of transport but are generally crowded. If you want a more comfortable and convenient transport you can opt for a little expensive Coaches for getting around.

Trains are a safer option than road travel, although the network and tickets are limited.

Rickshaws (cycle-rickshaws) or CNGs (auto-rickshaws) are best ways to commute between sights in cities and between villages.

Boat In Barisal and Khulna divisions, the riverboat is the king of travel. Joining locals on a long ferry ride is one of the undisputed highlights of Bangladesh trip.

Plane Domestic flights to divisional towns from Dhaka are worth considering if your time is limited.

FOOD IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh has an enormous variety of food catering to all budgets. Bangladeshi food is similar to Indian food, lots of curry based dishes, soups, vegetables, roti and chai.

Although contrary to in India, Bangladeshis eat a lot of meat (mutton, chicken, and beef). Many popular fast food chains from U.S. such as KFC and Burger King can also be spotted readily. Bangladesh-Chinese fusion restaurants serving fantastic cuisines can be tried by food lovers.

For vegetarians, and especially Hindus, beef-free restaurants can be a bit difficult to find, but there are few Indian restaurants where one can get vegetarian food in a beef-free environment.

Local sweets like rasogollah and golap jam/pantuya/ledikeni are excellent desserts to try.

LANGUAGE IN BANGLADESH

The majority of young people can speak or understand English. This breaks down cultural barriers and makes it easier to make friends and do daily activities like ordering in a restaurant or riding in a taxi. Most of the people also speak Bengali to communicate.

CURRENCY IN BANGLADESH

The local currency of Bangladesh is the Taka (Tk), which is (notionally) further divided into 100 paisas. The largest note is Tk 1000. The smallest coin is Tk 1.

The most reliable ATMs are AB Bank, Dutch Bangla Bank, Brac Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC, all of which have branches in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

You will find official money changers upon arriving at Dhaka airport. Most top-end hotels as well as banks in big cities will also change foreign currency for a small surcharge.
