HOW TO CLEAR MCI SCREENING TEST IN YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT

The exam of FMGE is given by those candidates who have completed their MBBS abroad and want to practise in India as a qualified Medical practitioner. The FMG Examination also known widely as the MCI Screening Test is conducted by the National Board of Examination twice a year in June and then in December.

Once you clear this exam, you will be equivalent to the candidates who have completed their MBBS from India and will be able to obtain a provisional or permanent registration certificate from Medical Council of India (MCI) or any State Medical Council (SMC).

For clearing the FMGE a candidate only needs to correctly answer 150 out of 300 questions and you can be a certified doctor. This is not too hard to attain if you think about it positively if you are able to apply only half the amount of knowledge gained during your MBBS abroad you are good to go.

Focus on the entire syllabus:

In your FMGE preparation, each subject is important do not prepare for particular subjects only rather try to have a strong command over at least 13 subjects out of 19. You should remember shortcuts can never lead you to success.

Prepare reference notes:

Whenever you study any topic keep on taking notes and jotting down crucial notes in key format. These keynotes will speed up your future revision process and you can also keep them handy as required. These small notes and references will facilitate your learning experience and retention.

Follow an effective timetable:

Before starting your preparation evaluate the syllabus and the duration of time available for preparation. Then according to your strong and weak subjects divide the preparation time for the entire syllabus so that all the topics can be covered. Make sure to allow time for daily revisions.

Revise Consistently:

Revise the topics frequently to ensure you are able to retain the preparation and apply them with confidence on the day of the exam. Make sure to include time for daily revision of important topics in your study plan. You should be able to revise the complete FMGE syllabus at least thrice before the exam.

Know your grasp on the topics:

Know your strong and weak subjects and work on them accordingly. Give ample amount to your weaker areas but make sure you complete your strong topics first so that they don’t get left out. If you leave any topic, it will impact your overall performance. In the MCI screening test, every mark counts to bring you closer to become a qualified doctor in India.

Take Mock Tests:

Take regular mock tests to evaluate your preparation. You can also join an online mock test series while you are studying MBBS abroad. When you take mock tests you are in an exam like situation and you have to implement your knowledge in the given time. This helps you identify your weaker areas and the improvement you need. It provides real-time feedback to help you improve.

Attempt MCQs for each subject:

In an MCI/FMGE screening test high speed, information retention capability, memorising efficiency, implementation of knowledge effectively play a pertinent role in achieving success. Constant practice of MCQs on various topics keeps you updated with the current pattern of the exam. It also helps you identify your strengths and weaknesses and improve your accuracy and speed by consistent practice. The more you practice better are your chances of scoring higher marks in the examination.

Stick to reliable and consistent resources:

With numerous resources available to prepare for MCI screening test the students generally get confused and overwhelmed while selecting the right study materials for them. One should not get lured into using too many resources or hopping from one book to another. Rather one should take time to choose wisely good quality resources for the subjects and stick to them during the preparation. Changing your resources or study materials frequently adds on to the confusion and also pushes behind your study time schedule.

The MCI screening test is conducted to keep a check on basic concepts, common sense, application of concepts, and ability to check the time management. This exam is not about each and every detail of the study curriculum of MBBS. The test is taken just to evaluate your familiarity with the concepts. If possible start a basic preparation for MCI Screening Test while you are studying MBBS abroad so that you can simultaneously evaluate your knowledge of the topics while you are studying those subjects in MBBS itself. This will definitely help you clear your MCI screening test in the first attempt. Stay optimistic and don’t shy away from working hard and you will definitely achieve success in all your endeavours.
