About University

Samarkand State Medical Institute was founded on 7 May 1930 as the “Uzbek State Medical Institute”. It is officially accredited by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education Uzbekistan and recognised by the National Medical Commission of India (NMC).

Since inception for more than 75 years of its existence, the Institute has prepared more than 30,000 physicians. Currently, there are 4967 students studying in 8 bachelor’s programs, 371 residents in – 27 master’s specialities and 597 residents – in 38 areas of clinical residency. There are 5 faculties in the institute: curative, paediatric, medical pedagogic, higher education nursing, postgraduate medical education.

The duration of MBBS course at Samarkand State Medical Institute is 5 years and the medium of instruction is English. The clinical base of the Samarkand State Medical Institute is the Clinic of 415+ beds. Here health care services in 30 different specialities on the highest level are provided to more than 15000 in-patients and 40000 out-patients every year. The clinic departments of the university are equipped with modern medical equipment; there are ultrasound diagnostic devices, ECG, Echocardiography, Echoencephalography, Endoscopy, gamma scanners, laser therapy equipment, operating microscope, video-endoscopic devices, incubators, anaesthesia apparatus etc. Moreover, another clinical base for practical training of students in the Research Center of Pediatric Surgery well endowed for effective practice.
