The exceptional quality of living and 800 Years of history in higher education system can surely transform ones educational journey in Poland into an unforgettable experience.

Top 5 must-know facts to help you enjoy your study experience in Poland without any worries are as follows:

What’s the currency in Poland and what is the living expense in the country for Indian students?

Poland is a country where cost of living is lower than in other European countries but with all the awesome European country perks. Estimation of how much money will be required for the course you are planning to study Poland is a really necessary requisite to get a clear idea of your living expense in any country for the whole course duration to best plan your budget. On average living, food, travel, etc cost in total for a student comes to about 300-500 Euros.

Although Poland is a member of the European Union, generally, you cannot use Euros, here the official currency of Poland is Polish Zloty. At few tourist places you can pay with Euros, but general transactions are done in Zloty only.

One Euro is equal to about 4.47 Zloty and 1 Zloty is equal to about 19.03 INR.  If you want to exchange currency you can do it at Individual banks, Forex businesses, Currency Exchange Bureaus, Kantor’s and Hotel reception desks that buy and sell zloty but at the rate of their choice.

Using ATM’s and credit cards are another very comfortable payment method for foreign visitors in Poland because you won’t need to go through the hassle of exchanging money.

How to Enjoy discounts with the student identity card?

Being a student in Poland has its own benefits. Poland is full of amazing opportunities to try many new things, enjoy life or to travel across Europe freely. Students in Poland enjoy a lot of privileges and perks that all local and international students can take an advantage of.

For enjoying student discounts you need an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) that gives you the benefit of using the discounts for all the listed places. This card is the equivalent of Polish student ID and you can get all the discounts by simply carrying a student ID with you.

The students receive almost 50% discount on public transportation, including long-distance trains. Most cinemas, theaters and museums as well as hairdressers, some restaurants, gym memberships, clubs and cafes offer special prices for students.

How to use public transportation in Poland?

Polish cities have well-developed networks of public transport which is efficient, inexpensive, and safe. Depending on a city, the modes of transport include metro, buses, trams, trolley buses, trains and underground trains.

Tickets are available at newspapers stands, from machines marked with the word “Bilety”. Students get special discounted tickets if carrying valid student ID card or International Student Identity Card (ISIC).

The capital city Warsaw has a really good public transport, and even at night, it’s safe to commute and reach any place. Urban rapid rail service SKM in Warsaw is a rapid rail service and runs over two zones.

It is usually a good idea to buy a long term ticket for cheap and easy public transportation. Some cities also have short-time bike rental systems that allow you to take a bike from one place to another.

In cities, taxis are available at major hotels, designated taxi stands, and can be ordered in advance by phone. Internet-based ride services, such as Uber and iTaxi are accessible everywhere.

How to find accommodation in Poland?

Finding an Accommodation is one of the most nerve wrecking and tedious tasks for International students in a foreign country. Depending upon your choice of university, you might get accommodation in dormitories or student residences. The hostels are well furnished and equipped with all the amenities for the student’s comfortable stay throughout their education. If you do not want to stay at the university you can always find a place to rent with the help of the University or your peers.

Off campus housing/flats are easily available for students who want to rent rooms or flats in private apartments. Living outside the University is very safe. The prices may vary depending on size and location of the flat and the apartments are usually fully furnished.
