NTA or MHRD have not thrown any light on the matter and the genesis of all the speculations are the news reports, lacking confirmation.

Since the reports of National Testing Agency (NTA) conducting JEE Main and NEET in December 2018 has surfaced, mixed reactions have been received from students and experts. While some see JEE Main and NEET December as an opportunity for admission, others disagree with the notion.

  • Start Preparing Right Now: To begin with, if NTA conducts the exams in December then the candidates need to start preparing for it right now. Earlier, CBSE used to conduct both the exams after the school board examination. Which provided a buffer time of 1 to 2 months for the entrance exam preparation. However, for the December examination, only 6 months are left. Hence, it is time to gear up and begin the preparation in full swing.
  • Finish Syllabus Early: Candidates who have finished class 12th examination are not at loss but those who are currently studying in class 12th will have to finish syllabus early. The school will finish the syllabus at a pace appropriate for the board exams but to crack JEE and NEET, students will have to get through with syllabus as soon as possible.
  • Get Comfortable with Computers: For recently held JEE Main, a total of 1135084 candidates registered. Of these, 897766 applied for the offline examination and only 237318 opted computer based test. NEET has only been held in pen and paper mode and for it above 13 lakh candidates applied.

Now, looking at the data it is clear that a maximum number of candidates are comfortable with the offline paper. But if speculations are to be considered then JEE Main December and NEET December will only be conducted in online mode. So, it is adviced that the candidates start preparing for the online exam.

To get used to computer based examination, the candidates can practice online mock test and test series. Online sample paper are also a source of preparation. Candidates can also try and make all the notes and study material in the system. Getting e-books for preparation will help.

Other than this, candidates can also make a time table or plan to prepare for JEE Main December. There is no particular strategy to crack an examination but the candidates can try making study time table, short notes, etc. The same approach can be used for the NEET preparation.

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Upendra Kushwaha informed the Lok Sabha last year that NEET and JEE (Mains) might be conducted twice a year. “The exams will be conducted online at least twice a year, thereby giving an adequate opportunity to the candidates to bring out their best,” Kushwaha had said.

Currently, the two popular entrance exams were held only one a year. The move is likely to benefit the students who have to rush through their preparations during April-May after appearing for board examinations in March-April. Most importantly, it will give them an additional opportunity for the students to appear for the exams without wasting a whole year.

Currently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts both the exams.

“IIT Kanpur has already been assigned the task of setting up the agency and they have started with forming a team of subject experts in various fields and technical experts to design the question papers. The agency will be able to conduct the first examination in December next year,” a senior official said in November last year reported DNA.
A question bank will be created by subject experts and the same will be used in the exams. The official further said that creating a question bank, ideating and managing the online system are the key tasks that we will be carried out by the NTA.

The NTA was approved by Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2017. The NTA would work as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organisation to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions.

It is expected that with the entry of the NTA, the entrance examinations, especially NEET will become more poised to favour students from across the board. Currently, one of the main criticism is that the NEET exam curriculum favours only CBSE students, in grave disadvantage for students from other boards.

Medical graduates willing to procure a licence to practice Indian medicine systems, including Ayurveda, may soon have to clear an exit exam, according to a proposed legislation on the lines of the health ministry’s National Medical Commission Bill.

All Students who studying MBBS from foreign or from INDIA  must clear exit exam to obtain license to practice Indian medicine: Health ministry’s draft bill

This is a part of a draft bill which seeks to create a new regulator, National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy, to replace the two statutory bodies governing higher education in homoeopathy and Indian systems of medicine.

The AYUSH ministry, in consultation with NITI Aayog, has formulated the inclusion of integrative medicine in the proposed bill which will enable AYUSH practitioners to practise modern medicines and vice versa after undergoing a “bridge course”.

The AYUSH National Teachers Eligibility will be conducted for appointment of all teachers in AYUSH institutions, a senior official in the ministry of AYUSH said.Proposed by the NITI Aayog-led panel, the draft bill known as National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy, which seeks to replace Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), also calls for AYUSH National Teachers Eligibility Test to bring in quality teachers in the traditional systems of medicine.

A committee under the chairmanship of vice chairman, Niti Aayog, additional principal secretary to prime minister, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Niti Aayog and secretary, Ministry of Ayush as members examined the working of the existing regulatory bodies of Indian Systems of Medicine.

It recommended the creation of National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy.

There are two statutory regulatory bodies namely Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) set up as per the provision of Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970, and Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973, respectively, that regulate education and practice of AYUSH systems of medicine through its regulations.

Further, from upcoming academic session, it will be mandatory for those seeking admission in AYUSH’s undergraduate courses to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

“However, we are still exploring whether to merge the entrance exam with NEET or to have our own common entrance exam,” the official said.

For all system of AYUSH, minimum 50 % marks have to be obtained by the candidates to be eligible for admission in under-graduate courses.

The draft National Medical Commission Bill which seeks to replace the existing apex medical education regulator Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body also calls for a licentiate exam which all medical graduates will have to clear to get practicing licences.
