Petition regarding the postponement of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2020 dismissed

Supreme Court on Monday 17th August 2020 has been notified to all the parents, candidates and general public that the multiple petitions filed regarding the postponement of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2020 have been rejected.

A three-judge bench comprising of justices BR Gavai and Krishna Murari and headed by Justice Arun Mishra has stated that” “Career of students cannot be put in peril. We find no merit in the petition. The petition is dismissed”. Justice Arun Mishra also cited that ‘If exams are not held, won’t it be a loss to the country? Students will lose an academic year.

The plea had instanced that, conducting the JEE Main and NEET examination across the country at such risky time is nothing else but putting lives of lakh of young students at utmost risk of disease and death. It was suggested in the petition that the best alternative at this period is to take some time and let this COVID-19 crisis subside then only conduct these exams, to save the lives of the students and their parents.

As of now, it is confirmed that the NEET Exams will be held on 13th September 2020 and JEE Mains Exam from 1st-6th September 2020 as planned. Taking into account the concerns of the general public NTA has said that the exams will be conducted with adequate precautions and safety measures.
