COURSES OFFERED AT SIBERIAN STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Siberian State Medical University offers two types of degrees-Bachelor and Specialist. Bachelor degrees are Nursing Care and Social Work requiring 4 years of study. After completion of education, the student must take mandatory state accreditation, called Primary Accreditation to start practising in the medical field as a nurse, a medical assistant or a paramedic.

Specialist degrees are divided into two groups: Specialist degrees in Dentistry, Pharmacy or Psychology take at least 5 years to complete. Specialist degrees in General Medicine and Pediatrics take 6 years of study. After the completion of a specialist degree, students can start practising as a primary care physician or a paediatrician or choose to continue their study in 2 years of Residency to receive specialization. Primary Accreditation is necessary for all who complete Specialist degrees and Residency to practise.

DEPARTMENTS AT SIBERIAN STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Siberian State Medical University consists of seven departments:

Department of General medicine

Department of General Medicine is the oldest department at Siberian State Medical University with a long history and many scientific traditions. It is the largest department in SibMed in terms of the number of graduates per year.
The training of Students at the department is not limited to theoretical lectures. Students can practice their knowledge at the University Hospital.
Students also have access to modern medical equipment and wet mounts. They can hone their skills in modern mannequins and phantoms at the University Simulation Center.

Department of Dentistry

Siberian State Medical University opened the largest Dental Clinic of the city in 2009. The Clinic is equipped with the most modern high-tech equipment and the best phantom classes in the region.
Lectures and master classes at the department are organized annually by leading domestic and foreign specialists in the field of dentistry.
Teaching activities are closely linked with practice and patient care

Department of Pediatrics

Department of Pediatrics was started at Siberian State Medical University in 1944 to teach the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in children and adolescents.
The Department trains specialists to work in children’s clinics, hospitals, maternity clinics and prenatal centres.
Students can practice their skills obtained in class in the University Hospital and Children’s Clinic, and the Regional Perinatal Center.

Department of Biomedicine

Siberian State Medical University’s Department of Biomedicine was opened in 1975. Currently, it is the only Department beyond the Urals training specialists for research institutes in biomedical and medical fields.
The programs offered at the Department are a combination of fundamental scientific disciplines with clinical practice in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Cybernetics.
Student training at the department mainly focuses on independent work, emphasis on the scientific activities, and obtaining practical skills necessary in various research fields.
Some of the graduates of the university are already working at the Institute of Human Gene Therapy, Harvard University, Vanderbilt, Stanford University and Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Germany.

Department of Pharmacy

Siberian State Medical University’s department was established in 1941.
The Department has trained qualified personnel not only for pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies but also for the specialized departments of other Siberian universities: in Kemerovo, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk.
The Department of Pharmacy closely cooperates with the pharmaceutical industry and students can undergo training in specialized firms, such as “Microgen” research and production association in Tomsk, “Virion”, Tomsk Innovative Company “Artlife”, a training laboratory at “ASTRAFARMA”, a training pharmacy, the oldest provincial pharmacy in Tomsk, Tomsk regional pharmacy warehouse.
Students also have the opportunity to develop and produce an experimental batch of pharmaceutical products at the SibMed Technology Implementation Center.

Department of Professional Development and Retraining

Siberian State Medical University has opened one of the largest centres of additional professional education in the Russian Federation, the Department of Professional Development and Retraining.
The Department offers more than 100 different courses that are constantly reviewed and updated.
Classes are conducted by highly qualified teachers (professors, associate professors, doctors and candidates of medical sciences).
Upon graduation, students are rewarded standard form documents (certificates of vocational retraining, professional certificates and certificates of advanced training).
