B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Nepal
Established on Jan 18, 1993 B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) was incorporated as an autonomous Health Sciences University on Oct 28, 1998 with a directive of working towards developing socially responsible and competent health workforce, providing health care & work towards innovative health research.
B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is named after Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala, Nepal’s visionary leader in social upliftment and firm believer of national integration.
The Institute is contemplated as one of the successful examples of Nepal-India co-operation. The Health Ministers of the two countries on Mar 10, 1994 signed the Indo-Nepal agreement for establishment of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
The Institute located in Dharan, Nepal has been providing health care services through Primary Health Care Centers, District Hospitals and Zonal Hospitals in various districts of the region.
B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is a multidisciplinary faculty fulfilling the mission of medical education, hospital services and research interests.
B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is recognized by the Medical Councils of Nepal, India and Sri-Lanka and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the WHO.
The University Campus covers an area of 699 acres of land and has been divided into:
- teaching hospital complex
- residential complex
- golf course
- protected forest area
There are separate college complexes for all constituent colleges in the campus.

- Faculty of Dentistry
- Faculty of Nursing
- Faculty of Public Health & Community Medicine
The medical college has well-established major clinical and basic science departments with a 700-bedded Central Teaching Hospital.
Well furnished accommodation is provided to all faculty members, doctors, nursing staff, officers and technical staff inside the campus.
B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences follows an innovative approach of community-based training of students. It provides services to the local people through Teaching District Hospitals.
Students of different faculties visit or are posted at the health institutions under supervision of where they get opportunity to learn in the community set-up.
