NEET scores valid for 3 years: for aspirants taking MBBS admission abroad


The medical aspirants who have been considering MBBS admissions abroad can breathe a sigh of relief as the Medical Council of India and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have favored the proposal of validating NEET scores for 3 years for the students who wish to study medicine in a foreign medical institute.

Under “Eligibility Requirement for Taking Admission in an Undergraduate Medical Course in a Foreign Medical Institution (Amendment) Regulation, 2019”, the new policy by MCI has been brought into effect through the gazette notification issued on 14th March,2019. Eligibility-15.03.2019

NEET score will be considered valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of result, allowing the candidates to study MBBS abroad or any such equivalent medical course in a foreign medical institution without any impediment.

Last year, NEET was made compulsory by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in order to get the eligibility certificate for MBBS admission abroad. The step was taken to improve the quality of candidates going abroad to get primary medical education.

The moves to validate the scores of NEET for 3 years will indeed benefit the medical aspirants who are gearing up to pursue MBBS abroad. This will save the students from the hassle of taking NEET exam over and over, if they contemplate the possibility to study MBBS abroad.

As per the media reports, yearly more and more students are choosing to study medicine in a foreign medical institute. Due to the prevalent competition for a seat in India, low and affordable cost of education in government run medical institutes abroad, the quality of  medical education , advance technology available and global exposure are some of  the reasons studying abroad is finding firm footing among the medical aspirants.

NEET is an entrance exam conducted by the National testing Agency once a year for admission in MBBS/BDS course in all medical colleges across the country whether government or private, except certain institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER.
