Founded in 1933 as Kazakh National University, as it is popularly known Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is located in Almaty, the historical capital and largest city of the Republic of Kazakhstan

It was named after the 10th-century Arabic philosopher Al-Farabi in 1991 and in 2001 it was classified as a National University.

Teaching at Al-Farabi Kazakh National Medical University is imparted in 3 languages – Kazakh, Russian, and English. Departments have gained extensive experience in teaching in English.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is a member of the International Association of universities and the Co-founder of the Eurasian Association of universities.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is recognized and accredited by Medical Council of India (MCI), World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and medical councils of many leading countries.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University consists of 16 functioning faculties, 67 departments, 32 scientific research institutes and centres, a techno-park; more than 2000 professors, doctors, scientific candidates and PhD’s, more than 100 academicians, more than 40 honoured figures of the Republic of Kazakhstan, about 40 laureates of State and nominal awards of ROK and 40 laureates of the young scientists’ awards, 47 fellows of state scientific fellowships.
