Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center (GMCTHRC), Pokhara was established in 2007 with the aim of imparting quality medical education to the students from different parts of the world. The College is located in the peaceful ambience at Kaski Pokhara.
Gandaki Medical College is affiliated to the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal and has been recognised by Nepal Medical Council since 2010. The medical college is also recognised by the Medical Council of India which makes the MBBS graduates eligible to practice in India as a qualified doctor by taking the appropriate licensure exam.
Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University. IOM has been running 29 different programs in Medicine, public health, nursing, Para-medical and traditional medicine through 7 constituent and 10 affiliated campuses all over the country. Presently, Gandaki Medical College campus conducts MBBS, BDS, BSc. Nursing, BNS, BSc. MIT, BSc. MLT, BPH, B Pharma Program and also Post Graduate program in different departments. Gandaki Medical College only takes in 75 students in the MBBS program annually and conducts the whole course in the English Language.
The entire establishment of Gandaki Medical College, viz, Pre-clinical and clinical departments, Teaching hospital, School of Nursing, Students hostels, Quarters for faculties and other staff, Library, etc., all are located within the campus. This facilitates congenial understanding between the teaching staff and students and encourages them to work together for a better academic environment.

The MBBS curriculum at Gandaki Medical College is community-oriented. It follows s integrated teaching and learning activities that encourage problem-based learning (PBL). The curriculum has been divided into three phases. The first phase is of two years during this, Community Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences and clinical exposure take place, the second phase of one year in which the students study forensic medicine, community medicine and clinical ward placements with theoretical teaching and in the third phase of one and half year duration, students study all the clinical subjects and a twelve-week community placement takes place, followed by junior internship during the last six months of rotation.
